Charlie Wakefield is a versatile defender or midfielder who formerly played for Chelsea's academy teams.
Charlie joined Chelsea as an Under-12.
Charlie made his Under-18 debut in February 2014 and racked up a further four appearances by the end of the season. Showing versatility and no little talent in his first season as a scholar in 2014-15, he lined up at right-back and all across the attacking midfield roles, making thirty total appearances and coming away with winners' medals in both the FA Youth Cup and UEFA Youth League.
As a second-year and armed with a professional contract, he made considerable strides in 2015-16. Weighing in as a regular contributor with goals and assists in Joe Edwards' Under-18 team, he also grew into a role in the victorious 2015-16 UEFA Youth League team whilst adding another Youth Cup to his medal haul as well. Towards the end of the season Adi Viveash handed him greater exposure to Under-21 football, where early returns proved very promising indeed. They continued too, as despite missing several chunks of 2016-17 through hamstring problems, he produced a team-high six assists in thirteen appearances and looked very much at home at Premier League 2 level.
He then missed almost all of the 2017-18 season - when he was meant to be on loan at Stevenage - with more hamstring injuries, only returning to fitness again in late 2018. Having trialled with Millwall, Charlton and QPR, he joined Coventry City on a permanent deal on January 31st 2019.
Charlie has been capped by England at Under-16 level and scored against Wales in the 2013 Sky Sports Victory Shield.
