Doncaster Rovers Football Club is a professional football club, based at the Keepmoat Stadium in Doncaster, South Yorkshire. The club was formed in September 1879 by Albert Jenkins, a fitter at Doncaster's Great Northern Railway works in response to the emerging popularity of the game in the nearby city of Sheffield. The team turned professional in 1885 and were first elected to the Football League in 1901. Doncaster have spent the majority of their playing history between the third and fifth tiers of the English football league system. They have met Chelsea on just two occasions, an FA Cup and a League Cup tie, less than three years apart, in 1958 and 1960 respectively.
