John Frederick Compton (born 27 August 1937) is a former defender who played for Chelsea between 1956 and 1959, having joined the club as a youngster.
He made his debut towards the end of the 1955-56 season but would have to wait almost two years for his next first team appearance, starting three consecutive league matches in April 1958. Compton didn't appear for the first team in 1958-59 but started the 1959-60 season as a regular in the side. An away game against Blackpool in December 1959 would prove to be his last for the club and he left to join Ipswich Town the following summer.
After a first season in which he made just three first team appearances he featured regularly for the Suffolk side over the following three seasons, making over 100 league appearances, before signing for Bournemouth in 1964.
