Richard Nartey is a defender who formerly played for Chelsea.
Richard joined Chelsea as an Under-9.
Richard made his Under-18 debut during the 2013-14 season whilst still an Under-15, and featured again during the 2014-15 as a schoolboy. Serving as something of a utility defender in 2015-16, able to feature in any position at the back in Joe Edwards' 4-2-3-1 and 3-4-2-1 formations of choice, he featured in more than half of the league campaign and made two Under-21 appearances towards the end of the season.
He began to assert himself more capably in 2016-17, leading a stingy Under-18 defence that racked up 18 clean sheets in all competitions on their way to a domestic treble. He stepped up almost full-time to the Development Squad towards the end of the season, starting six times and facing a number of senior opponents including Danny Welbeck and Jay Rodriguez, faring well in the process. He took a longer path to senior football, playing regularly in the Dev Squad while continuing his education, and travelled with the first team away to Leicester on the final day of the 2018-19 season. Thereafter, he joined Burton Albion on a season-long loan, making 31 appearances for the Brewers in 2019-20.
He was released at the end of his contract in June 2020.
Richard has no international representation to date.
