James "Jimmy" Bain (born 14 December 1919 in Blairgowrie) [1] played as a winger for Chelsea immediately after the Second World War. He played in five of Chelsea's six matches in the 1945-46 FA Cup; the only major competition that took place that season as professional football recommenced after the War. He made his league debut on the opening day of the 1946-47 season, as a crowd in excess of 60,000 saw Chelsea win in their first league match for almost seven years against Bolton Wanderers. He went on to make a further eight league appearances for the Blues over the course of the season. His only goal for Chelsea came in a First Division match against Brentford, with what turned out to be a crucial goal in a 3-2 win. He left to join Swindon Town the following season, where he would have a successful seven-year career, making over 235 league appearances for the club.
