In the summer of 1951 the Middlesex F. A. decided to introduce a new competition, The Middlesex Invitation Youth Challenge Cup.
They invited several of the local professional clubs to enter their youth teams into this competition which was to be played on a league basis with semi-finals (unconfirmed) and a Final.
In addition to the 5 teams shown below, it is possible that Crystal Palace and Brighton may have been involved, but failed to complete the season.
Portsmouth beat Fulham in the first final.
Very quickly this competition was to grow to become the strongest Youth League in the country.
The information shown has been obtained from three major sources - the competition Handbooks, the Chelsea programmes, and local/national newspapers.
