Chelsea were back to America prior to the start of the 2012/13 season, playing in the World Football Challenge. This was one of the most unusual formats for a competition – there were eleven teams, yet seven only played a single match!
Whilst in America Chelsea also played one friendly match. Upon returning to England Chelsea played a further friendly against Brighton.
At the end of the season Chelsea returned to America to play two challenge games against Manchester City, meaning that these two teams met on six occasions during the season!
