Before Chelsea
Chelsea career
On 25 August 2016, after making 95 competitive appearances in his career, Eduardo joined Chelsea on a one-year deal to provide experienced backup and competition for goalkeepers Thibaut Courtois and Asmir Begović. Despite Chelsea winning the Premier League that season, Eduardo did not make any appearances and therefore did not receive a winners’ medal.
In May 2017, he signed a one-year contract extension, with Chelsea’s technical director Michael Emenalo praising him as “a model professional.” Although initially listed among the players to be released after the 2017–18 season, Eduardo instead signed another one-year contract in July 2018.
Soon after, Eduardo was loaned out to Dutch club Vitesse for the 2018–19 season, where he made his competitive debut in a Europa League qualifying match on 26 July 2018, a 2–2 draw away to Viitorul Constanța.
After failing to make any official appearances for Chelsea during his time at Stamford Bridge, Eduardo left the club on 1 July 2019.
