George Luke is a former midfielder who made one appearance for Chelsea before moving to South Africa as a teenager.
A former England Schoolboy international, Luke signed for Durban City in 1967 at the age of just 19, after making a sole first team appearance against Leicester City in the final league match of the 1966-67 season. The first player to be signed from England by a South African side for a transfer fee, [1] Luke went on to play for East London and Jewish Guild before signing for Highlands Park. He formed part of a double-winning side at the Johannesburg club in 1975, along side former Chelsea striker Barry Bridges, before moving to Ireland in 1976, to play under Bridges at St. Patrick's Athletic in Dublin.
Upon retiring from the game, Luke returned to his native North East of England, where he would run his own business.
