John O’Rourke (born 11 February 1945 in Northampton) is an English former forward who made one appearance for Chelsea in 1963. He joined the Blues as a teenager, having played for Arsenal's youth team, and made his debut as an 18 year-old in a League Cup defeat against Swindon Town. It would prove to be his only first team appearance for the club, and he left to join Luton Town shortly afterwards. A prolific goalscorer for the Hatters he signed for Middlesbrough for a fee of £18,500 three years later where he would continue to score regularly. He represented England at Under-23 level during this period. [1] He then moved back down south to Ipswich Town for a fee of £30,000 in 1968, before moving to Coventry City. He went on to play for Q.P.R. and Bournemouth, and following a brief spell in South Africa at Rangers Johannesburg he saw out his playing career in Dorset, turning out for various local non-league sides.
