Makita International Tournament
From TheChels.info - The Chelsea Football Club Wiki
The Makita International Tournament was a pre-season friendly tournament held annually in England between 1988 and 1994. Originally called the Wembley International Tournament, and organised by IEP Tournaments, it was first staged in August 1988 at Wembley Stadium. The following year it was renamed the Makita International Tournament after gaining sponsorship from the Japanese power tool company. Typically, it hosted a combination of English and continental European teams, and was held at Wembley until 1991. Thereafter it was held at different venues around the country until the final competition in 1994.
Chelsea appeared in the final two editions of the tournament, winning it on their debut appearance in 1993 by beating Tottenham Hotspur 4-0 at White Hart Lane. [1]
