Before Chelsea
Mathis Amougou started his professional career in the AS Saint-Étienne youth system, where he developed as a central midfielder known for his athleticism, progressive dribbling, strong duels, and ability to carry the ball forward from deeper areas. In April 2023 he signed his first contract with Saint-Étienne and split time between the reserve side and first team as he adjusted to senior football.
Chelsea career
On 3 February 2025, Amougou joined Chelsea FC on an eight-year contract for a reported €15 million. He made his Chelsea debut as a substitute against Southampton later that month and also featured modestly in the UEFA Conference League campaign as part of the squad that went on to lift the trophy. Despite showing glimpses of his potential, regular first-team minutes were limited in a midfield crowded with competition.
In July 2025, Amougou completed a permanent transfer to RC Strasbourg Alsace, signing a long-term contract. At Strasbourg he became a more regular presence in Ligue 1 action, gaining valuable top-flight experience in France.
