Before Chelsea
Aubameyang began his professional career at AC Milan, but did not make a first-team appearance. Instead, he was loaned to several French clubs, including Dijon, Lille, Monaco, and notably Saint-Étienne, where he eventually signed permanently in 2011. His performances there earned him a move to Borussia Dortmund in 2013.
From 2013 to 2018, Aubameyang flourished at Dortmund, scoring 141 goals in all competitions and winning the DFB-Pokal in 2016–17. He was the Bundesliga's top scorer in the 2016–17 season.
In January 2018, Aubameyang signed for Arsenal for a then-club-record fee. He quickly became one of the Premier League’s top forwards, winning the Premier League Golden Boot in 2018–19 and captaining the team to FA Cup win in 2020, beating Chelsea in the final. He was stripped of the captaincy in late 2021 due to disciplinary issues and left the club by mutual consent in early 2022.
Aubameyang joined Barcelona in February 2022 and made an immediate impact, scoring 13 goals in 23 appearances. Despite a strong half-season, he was made available for transfer due to the club's financial constraints and the arrival of Robert Lewandowski.
Chelsea career
On 1 September 2022, Aubameyang signed for Chelsea FC on a two-year contract for a reported fee of £10.3 million. He was reunited with former Borussia Dortmund manager Thomas Tuchel, but Tuchel was sacked just days after Aubameyang’s arrival. Under subsequent managers Graham Potter and Frank Lampard, Aubameyang struggled for form and consistency.
Aubameyang made his Chelsea debut on 6 September 2022, starting in a 1–0 defeat to Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League. He registered his first Premier League appearance on 1 October, marking the occasion with his first goal for the club in a 2–1 away victory over Crystal Palace. Later in the Champions League group stage, Aubameyang found the net twice in back-to-back matches against his former side, AC Milan, showing flashes of his striking instincts on the European stage.
Due to lack of playing time and tactical incompatibility, Aubameyang's time at Chelsea was widely regarded as underwhelming. He left the club for Olympique Marseille in July 2023, signing a three-year contract.
