Steven Hampshire (born 17 October 1979 in Edinburgh) is a Scottish striker who made one senior appearance for Chelsea, in 1997.
Chelsea career
Hampshire joined Chelsea as a youngster, and his one appearance for the Blues came at the age of just 17. He replaced Mark Hughes in the second half of a League Cup tie against Blackburn Rovers in October 1997, two days before his 18th birthday. No further first team appearances followed, and in October 1999 Hampshire was loaned to Dunfermline Athletic. In January 2000 the move was made permanent. [1]
After Chelsea
Hampshire remained at Dunfermline for three and a half years. Though he featured regularly many of his appearances were as a substitute, and he was unable to fully establish himself in the side. The Scot then signed for Brechin City, again on a free transfer, where he would make 143 appearances in a four year spell, scoring 34 goals. He then played for Stenhousemuir, before moving to Berwick Rangers. He suffered a non-football-related injury shortly after joining the club, and left a short time later to focus on his career in car valeting. [2]
