William Haywood was an English inside forward who played for Chelsea in the early 1920s.
He scored the winning goal on his debut; a 1-0 home win against Aston Villa late in the 1921-22 season, and retained his place in the side for the final four matches of the season. He continued as a first choice starter in the opening weeks of the following campaign, and again opened the scoring at Stamford Bridge in a 4-0 win against Oldham Athletic as the Blues began the ultimately disappointing 1922-23 season strongly. Three appearances in December and another two in March comprised the remainder of his first team involvement in 1922-23 however, and after making a final appearance in December 1923 he left to join Halifax Town in the summer of 1924. After a spell at Petters & Yeovil he later played for Portsmouth and Barrow.
