Pre-Chelsea career

Diego Manuel Jadon da Silva Moreira began his football journey in the Standard Liège youth system, where his father had previously played, before moving to SL Benfica’s academy in August 2020. At Benfica, he progressed through the youth ranks and featured prominently for Benfica’s under-23 and B teams. He made his professional debut for Benfica B in January 2022. While at Benfica, he also contributed significantly in youth competitions, including the UEFA Youth League.

Chelsea career

On 1 July 2023, Moreira joined Chelsea FC on a free transfer after his contract with Benfica expired, signing a long-term deal with the Premier League club. He made his competitive debut for Chelsea on 30 August 2023 in an EFL Cup match against AFC Wimbledon, starting the game and featuring for 45 minutes in a 2–1 victory. Despite this appearance, he did not establish himself as a regular in the first team and was largely involved with the development squad during his time in London.

Shortly after joining Chelsea, on 1 September 2023, Moreira moved to Olympique Lyonnais in Ligue 1 on a season-long loan to gain top-flight experience. He made his debut for Lyon on 17 September 2023 off the bench in a 0–0 draw against Le Havre and later made a first start against Brest. However, his loan was cut short when Chelsea recalled him in January 2024 after limited impact in France’s top division.

On 16 August 2024, Moreira completed a permanent transfer to RC Strasbourg Alsace in Ligue 1, signing a contract running until 30 June 2029. At Strasbourg, he became a regular first-team player, featuring prominently in league and European competition matches and further developing his career in the French top flight.

International

Born in Belgium, Moreira was eligible for several national teams but represented Portugal at various youth levels after initially featuring for Belgium’s under-15 side. In 2025, he was called up to the Belgium national team for World Cup qualifying after FIFA approved his switch of national eligibility.
