Pre-Chelsea career
Niclas played for Bayer Leverkusen's youth teams from a young age before leaving for England in 2007.
Chelsea career
Niclas signed for Chelsea on scholarship terms in July 2007, replacing another young German goalkeeper, the similarly named Nick Hamann. After two seasons in the Under-18 set-up, he signed professional terms in the summer of 2009 and moved up into the Reserve ranks full time. However, he has found playing time a struggle as he competes alongside up to three other stoppers for starting duty. As a result, he has occasionally dropped back down into youth team football just to play.
In January 2010 Heimann spent a week training with Arminia Bielefeld with a view to a permanent move. The spell was unsuccessful and was followed by similar periods at Fortuna Dusseldorf and Red Bull Salzburg.
International
Niclas has represented Germany at Under-17 level.
