Pre-Chelsea career
Stipe came through the youth ranks at his local club side NK Zadar and became a fully-fledged top flight player by the age of 17. He scored eight goals in the 2012-13 season.
Chelsea career
Stipe joined Chelsea in August 2013 after impressing in Croatian domestic football and for his country at the 2013 FIFA Under-20 World Cup. However, without a UK work permit, he was forced into joining Dutch club NAC Breda on loan for the 2013-14 season. He didn't start many games in the first half of the season but did establish himself as something of a super-sub before the winter break, weighing in with four goals. He continued in the same vein for the rest of the season, finishing up with six goals in all competitions and in August 2014 signed another one-year loan deal at the club.
He started well, with three early-season goals including a brace at home to Ajax. Yet when manager Nebojsa Gudelj - a major factor behind him moving to Breda in the first place - was sacked, NAC's form hit rock bottom and he struggled to get into the team on a regular basis. In January, with plenty of interest in his services, he agreed to join Serie A side Udinese on loan until the end of the 2015-16 season. After a brief period of adaptation he got some playing time towards the end of the season and scored his first goal away to Roma. Despite fleeting involvement the season after, the Zebretti exercised their option to sign him permanently on June 15th 2016 for a reported fee of €4m.
