The 2000 FA Charity Shield opened the 2000-01 season, and took place at Wembley Stadium on 13 August. It was Chelsea's fourth appearance in the traditional season-opener, the second victory, and the club's first since 1955. Chelsea's appearance was by virtue of having won the FA Cup the previous season, while Manchester United were champions.
Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink opened the scoring on his debut, and Mario Melchiot sealed the victory in the second half after Roy Keane had been sent off for a challenge on Gustavo Poyet. Eiður Guðjohnsen and Mario Stanić also made their Chelsea debuts in this match.
