Pre-Chelsea career
Daniel, the son of journeyman striker Tony Philliskirk, joined Chelsea in 2007 from Oldham Athletic in a deal which could eventually be worth up to £2m for the Latics. Oldham were also to receive potential loan deals from Chelsea, which materialised in the form of spells at Boundary Park for Ryan Bertrand and Fabio Ferreira.
Chelsea career
Initially touted as a striker or a wide winger, he lined up more as an attacking midfielder from the middle in his first few appearances in the Under-18s, before dropping into central midfield regularly. At times, Daniel has played at centre-back, and on occasion returned to his former striking role.
2009-10 saw Daniel graduate from the youth team (with the exception of late season appearances for match fitness) and moved into the Reserve ranks full time. Appearances were hard to come by and performances weren't always been consistent, but he was called into Carlo Ancelotti's Champions League squad and sat on the bench against APOEL Nicosia, having been assigned the number 48 shirt.
In early August 2010, Daniel was loaned to Oxford United for an initial one month period, but featured for just 20 minutes of first team football. He returned to Chelsea on August 27th.
He was loaned out again in January 2011, this time to Sheffield United, for whom he signed permanently at the end of his Chelsea contract.
International
Daniel has represented England at Under-17 level, scoring during the 2007 Nordic Cup Tournament.
