Pre-Chelsea career
Fabio joined Chelsea in 2005 from Sporting Lisbon in a deal which also brought Ricardo Fernandes to the club.
Chelsea career
His arrival was controversial, as Sporting were naturally unhappy that such a prospect had been snatched off them. His first season was good without being spectacular, but with some concern that he never pressed on a great deal in his development. Another year in the Under-18s followed, where he finally showed he was better than that standard, but the problems came at Reserve level, where he once more failed to make a great impact.
For 2007-08 he didn’t go out on loan, but did the following season, spending a brief sojourn at Oldham Athletic as part of the agreement made between the clubs when Chelsea signed Daniel Philliskirk.
At the end of the 2008-09 season Fabio's contract expired and he left the club.
International
Fabio has represented Portugal at Under-16, Under-17 and Under-19 levels.
