Southern Junior Floodlight Cup

The Southern Junior Floodlight Cup was a competition for youth teams in which games were played on mid-week evenings, which ran between 1955 and 1999. It was a separate entity to the South East Counties competition, but shared the same Management Committee.

Origin
While many youth sides in southern England competed in the South East Counties League and South East Counties League Cup from the 1950s, it was deemed unviable for some of the teams based in more distant locations to travel regularly for league matches, but they were able to field teams in the more occasional Floodlight Cup as an alternative.
Chelsea's involvement
During the 42 seasons that the competition was competed for (the 1973/74 season was abandoned due to the power strike) Chelsea won the Southern Junior Floodlight Cup on 5 occasions, in 1955/56, 1959/60, 1960/61, 1961/62 and 1963/64, being in the final on a further 4 occasions in 1956/57, 1958/59, 1971/72 and 1986/87.
Chelsea played 127 games in this competition, one against Crystal Palace in September 1975 was unplayed and there is no indication of Chelsea's involvement that season. As mentioned above, the 1973/74 season was abandoned due to the power strike, although Chelsea did their 1st. Round match against Brentford, and that result is included here.
