With the war continuing, Chelsea continued playing in the Football League South, along with 15 other teams, which meant that the normal Home and Away fixtures could be re-introduced. In addition they also played in the London War Cup again but failed to get through the group stage.

Guest players were continuing to be used even more extensively now as more and more of the eligible men were being utilised in the armed forces and going abroad.

The Reserves were again, it appears, to play in the London Junior Competition, but information is really scarce, however the few known results are shown below.
It is assumed that this was still a competition for players aged under 20-years-of-age, this information being taken from an article in the Daily Express in the first week of September 1940.
