It is possible that the clubs had been arranging matches for their reserve teams during the period 1939 to 1944, but this would have been on a very haphazard basis. However, at the end of April 1944 it was proposed to resurrect the London Combination and, although many results are unknown, possibly unplayed, the reserve teams of 10 London teams competed for the London Combination championship in the 1944/45 season.
You will note that virtually none of Chelsea's London Combination matches were played at Stamford Bridge. The reason for this being that Greyhound Racing was held at Stamford Bridge most Saturday afternoons, apart from when the Chelsea 1st. team were playing at home, when there was no racing held.
