Mark Schwarzer is an Australian international goalkeeper who was at Chelsea from the summer of 2013 until January 2015. He joined on a free transfer having chosen not to extend his contract at Fulham. [1] A veteran at 40 years of age upon his arrival at the club, he had previously played in England for Bradford City and Middlesbrough before his move to Chelsea's west London neighbours in 2008. Upon making his debut for Chelsea against Swindon Town, he became the club's oldest ever player. Signed as a back-up, he made 12 appearances for Chelsea in the 2013-14 season, including in the UEFA Champions League semi-finals, with Petr Čech injured early in the first leg. In July 2014 his contract was extended for an additional season, keeping him at the club until 2015. With Thibaut Courtois finally joining the Chelsea squad ahead of the 2014-15 season Schwarzer was bumped down to third choice, and didn't make an appearance in the first half of the campaign. He left to join Leicester City in early January 2015.
