Thomas Henderson "Tommy" Docherty (born 24 April 1928 in Gorbals, Glasgow), managed Chelsea between 1961-67. He joined Chelsea as a coach under Ted Drake, but made four first team appearances during the 1961-62 season.
As manager, Docherty was responsible for turning around Chelsea's fortunes in the 1960s, selling many of the club's older, underachieving players and replacing them with youngsters like Terry Venables, Peter Bonetti and Bobby Tambling. The result was a dynamic and exciting young team which challenged for honours and came close to winning a treble of league, FA Cup and League Cup in 1964-65. Docherty was also responsible for changing Chelsea's kit to blue shorts and white socks, which have remained ever since.
