Pre-Chelsea career
Alastair joined the Chelsea academy as an Under-14.
Chelsea career
Alastair made his Chelsea academy debut in the 2010-11 season in his final year as as schoolboy. His first Under-18 start came away to Watford in March 2011. He was also named the best defender in the Under-16 Ferroli Cup tournament in Italy that same year.
A month later, he made his reserve team debut away to Manchester United. He followed that up by quickly making the right-back spot his own in the Under-18 team in his first year as a scholar.
The second half of the 11-12 season was more of a stop-start affair with team selection being largely dictated by the 2011-12 FA Youth Cup as well as missing time due to compassionate leave but Ali continued to show his versatility in playing across the defensive line and in midfield, and making another reserve appearance.
Injuries affected the start of his 2012-13 season and with playing time hard to come by, he had a trial spell at Crystal Palace in November. He impressed sufficiently to earn a professional deal with the Eagles, signed in January 2013.
International
Alastair represented England at Under-16 level.
