Metropolitan League
From TheChels.info - The Chelsea Football Club Wiki
The Metropoltan League was formed in 1949 as The Metropolitan & District League, changing to the shorter title in 1959. Originally the league was formed when the expected second division of the Southern League fell through. In the first season it had just nine members but subsequently increased (including up to 2 divisions for the 1963-64 season) but folded at the end of the 1970-71 season, at which time there were only 12 members, when several teams joined the Southern League.
Chelsea were to participate in the league for 7 seasons, before effectively no longer having a third team at the end of the 1959-60 season. They also played in the Metropolitan League Cup and the Metropolitan League Professional Cup. See elsewhere for details of these competitions.
Along with Arsenal, Chelsea were to win the competition on three occassions, more than any other club.
