Pre-Chelsea career
Isaiah came through the West Bromwich Albion academy and made a considerable name for himself as he reached the Under-16 age group by not only earning recognition at Under-18 and Under-21 levels, but also by working his way into Steve Clarke's first team squad. After being named as a substitute away to Chelsea in March 2013, he made his Premier League debut against Wigan Athletic a few weeks later, becoming the second youngest player to feature in the competition.
In June 2013 it was speculated that Chelsea were interested in his services and he put pen to paper on a deal on July 5th. West Brom rejected Chelsea's initial compensation offer and the transfer fee was reportedly decided by a tribunal.
Chelsea career
Isaiah immediately joined up with Dermot Drummy's Under-21 squad upon arrival. He started in good form, with a prolific pre-season followed by four goals in his first three official appearances. A hat-trick away to Bolton in his final appearance of 2013 completed a very successful personal calendar year and whilst personal form and injury meant the second half of 13-14 wasn't quite as impressive, he still played a key role in winning both the Under-21 League title and the FA Youth Cup.
An impressive pre-season with the first team squad ahead of 2014-15 promised much and he carried on that good form upon his return to youth team football. He captained the Under-19 team in the UEFA Youth League and was named on the substitute's bench for the first team's League Cup tie away to Shrewsbury Town.
In the penultimate match of the 2014-15 season he made his first team debut against former club West Bromwich Albion, a reward for a fine season in which he lifted the 2014-15 UEFA Youth League trophy and turned in several big performances in the club's run to retaining the FA Youth Cup.
On July 10th 2015 it was announced that Izzy would spend the season on loan at Vitesse Arnhem. Unfortunately, he was rarely able to hold down a consistent place in the starting line-up as injuries unsettled him for much of the season, but he did score his first senior goal with a fine finish away to Roda late in the campaign.
He joined Rotherham on loan at the beginning of the 2016-17 season and proved to be amongst their most accomplished players in a season where the Millers were firmly rooted to the foot of the table. In January 2017 the decision was taken to recall him and loan him to Huddersfield Town, where he was reunited with Kasey Palmer and played a significant role in helping the club to secure promotion to the Premier League.
On July 25th 2017 it was announced that Izzy had joined newly-promoted Brighton on a season-long loan deal but an injury-hit season ended in January when he suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament. It took the best part of a year for him to recover, and at that stage he was on loan at Championship club Leeds, but struggled for playing time under Marcelo Bielsa. More injuries affected his next two moves, at Luton in 2019-20 where he was outstanding when he played, and then at Sheffield Wednesday the following season. He was released by Chelsea in June 2021.
International
Isaiah has been capped by England at every age group up to Under-21.
