Pre-Chelsea career
James joined Chelsea at the age of 9 along with his brother.
Chelsea career
Highly rated from a young age, James' versatility aided him throughout his progress in the club's academy. He could play in almost any position on the pitch, but by the time he made it to Under-18 football, he was most often seen at right-back. A regular and consistent performer, he played capably for the reserve team but failed to progress and was released in 2006.
International
James has represented The Philippines since 2006, being eligible due to his mother hailing from the islands.
