Pre-Chelsea career
Tammy joined Chelsea at Under-8 level.
Chelsea career
Tammy made his Under-18 debut as an Under-16 in August 2013 and having scored more than 20 goals for the younger age groups before Christmas, began to have more of an impact at the next age level up. He scored twice for Adrian Viveash's squad before Christmas and was used as something of an impact substitute due to his excellent size and athleticism. A thigh injury did however curtail his involvement for much of the second half of the campaign.
Back fit for 2014-15 he was almost unstoppable before Christmas, scoring 19 goals at better than one per game before the Christmas break. Picking up where he left off when action resumed in 2015, a promotion to the Under-21 squad simply saw him start scoring at an even tougher level. He would finish with 41 goals, sharing the club's golden boot award with Dominic Solanke, and was an integral figure in FA Youth Cup and UEFA Youth League successes.
With Solanke joining Vitesse Arnhem on loan in 2015-16 Tammy took centre stage in all three age groups, taking the spotlight all for himself and leading the line in a hugely influential manner. As talismanic an individual as perhaps the academy has had at academy level in recent years, he grabbed 26 more goals en route to two more winners' medals in the FA Youth Cup and UEFA Youth League and, to cap it off, he was rewarded with a first team debut away to Liverpool in May before making his Stamford Bridge bow four days later.
He joined Bristol City on loan for the 2016-17 season and was outstanding, scoring 26 goals in all competitions and asserting himself as one of the country's leading young prospects. That landed him a Premier League loan in 2017-18, where he scored eight goals in 37 matches for an eventually relegated Swansea City. Returning to the Championship in 18-19, he scored 26 goals in 40 games for Aston Villa in leading them to promotion back to the Premier League, where he himself would again play the following season, this time at Chelsea in the number nine shirt under Frank Lampard. In his two seasons in the first-team squad he was the club's leading scorer, en route to winning a Champions League title in 2021. He was sold to Roma for €40m in August 2021, with the club retaining an €80m buyback.
International
Tammy has represented England up to senior international level, making his debut against Germany in a friendly at Wembley Stadium in November 2017.
