The 2012 UEFA Super Cup was contested between European Champions Chelsea and 2011-12 Europa League winners Atlético Madrid. It was Chelsea's second appearance in a Super Cup match, having won the trophy in 1998. Goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois was on-loan at the Spanish side but was allowed to compete by Chelsea. Atlético Madrid won 4-1, with Radamel Falcao scoring a first half hat-trick.
