Before Chelsea

Born in Wythenshawe, Manchester, Palmer joined the Manchester City academy at the age of eight. Progressing through the youth ranks, he captained the under-18s before making his first-team debut in September 2020 in an EFL Cup tie against Burnley. Palmer made sporadic appearances for City over the next three seasons, contributing to the club’s domestic and European successes, including their historic treble-winning 2022–23 campaign. Despite scoring in the UEFA Super Cup and Community Shield at the beginning of the 2023–24 season, Palmer sought more regular first-team opportunities.

Chelsea career

2023–24 Season

On 1 September 2023, Palmer signed for Chelsea on a seven-year contract for an initial fee reported to be £40 million, potentially rising to £45 million with add-ons. The transfer was seen as a major coup for Chelsea, who sought to revamp their squad with young, high-potential players under manager Mauricio Pochettino.

Palmer made his Chelsea debut on 2 September 2023, coming off the bench in a 1–0 defeat against Nottingham Forest. He scored his first goal for the club on 7 October 2023, converting a penalty in a 4–1 win over Burnley. Quickly establishing himself as a key figure, Palmer impressed with his technical ability, vision, and composure under pressure.

Throughout the 2023–24 season, Palmer became a talisman for Chelsea, frequently leading the team in goals and assists. His standout performances included a hat-trick against Manchester United in a dramatic 4–3 victory at Stamford Bridge in April 2024, where he scored twice in stoppage time to complete the comeback. He also netted four goals in a 6–0 rout of Everton, becoming the first Chelsea player since Frank Lampard to score four goals in a Premier League match.

Palmer finished the Premier League season with over 22 goals and 11 assists, making him one of the highest contributors in the division. His form earned him widespread acclaim, with many praising his maturity, leadership qualities, and impact in a young Chelsea side.
