Before Chelsea
David Datro Fofana began his professional journey at Abidjan City in the Ivory Coast, and also spent time on loan at AFAD in 2019. His breakthrough came in 2021 when he moved to Molde FK in Norway. There, he established himself as a prolific goalscorer—particularly in European competition—and earned attention as one of West Africa’s most exciting young forwards.
Chelsea career
Fofana made his debut off the bench in an FA Cup tie in early January. Seeking consistent playing time, he was loaned for the first half of the 2023–24 season to Union Berlin, where he scored once in 17 appearances before Chelsea recalled him in January.
Upon his return, Fofana joined Burnley on loan, where he reignited his form—scoring four goals and providing one assist in 15 Premier League appearances. His performances showcased his power, movement, and finishing instincts.
Chelsea arranged a loan move to Turkish outfit Göztepe SK in 2024, where Fofana started strongly but was sidelined by a knee injury after scoring twice in nine appearances. Due to the severity of the injury, Chelsea recalled him in early 2025.
