Aris Thessaloniki Football Club is a Greek football club based in the city of Thessaloniki in Northern Greece. Formed in 1914, the team colours are yellow and black, reminiscent of Byzantium, and the club is named after Ares, the god of war, whose image is portrayed on the club logo as depicted in the Ludovisi Ares, an Ancient Roman sculpture that is based on a Greek original. As of 2011 Aris have been champions of Greece three times, and have won the Greek Cup once.
Chelsea have met Aris in one European tie; in the first round of the victorious 1970-71 European Cup Winners' Cup campaign, with the Blues winning 6-2 on aggregate.
