AC Sparta Prague is a Czech football club based in Prague. It is the most successful club in the Czech Republic and one of the most successful in Central Europe, having reached the semi-finals of the European Cup in 1992. Sparta was long the main source for the Czech Republic national football team, however lately this has ceased to be the case, as the best Czech players almost all now play in higher-paying foreign leagues.
Chelsea beat Sparta Prague 2-0 in a 1957 friendly at Stamford Bridge, but the first competitive matches between the sides didn't come until the 2003-04 UEFA Champions League group stage. A 1-0 away win for the Blues was followed by a 0-0 draw at Stamford Bridge as Chelsea went on to top the group. The two side also met in the 2012-13 UEFA Europa League knock-out stages; Chelsea prevailing 2-1 on aggregate.
